Learning in silence
मौनव्याख्या प्रकटित परब्रह्मतत्त्वं युवानं (Mauna-Vyaakhyaa Prakattita Para-Brahma-Tattvam Yuvaanam)
This line is from Dakshinamurthy Stotram. This means, "Whose Exposition through Profound Silence is Awakening the Knowledge of the Supreme Brahman in the Hearts of His Disciples; Who is Himself Youthful"
I couldn’t understand how it was possible to teach something without speaking a single word. As explained in the prerequisite article, the entire universe exists within the Self, which means that everything in this universe is the Self, but in different forms and levels of consciousness. This concept can be easily grasped through the analogy of a dream, where the entire dream exists within my consciousness, and thus all the characters in that dream are manifestations of my consciousness, albeit in different forms and levels of consciousness.
As I expand my consciousness to higher levels, I experience a sense of peaceful serenity that encompasses everyone, regardless of their actions being good or bad, because I understand that their behaviors arise from the illusion of separation. Moreover, as I ascend further, various other realms become a part of my consciousness, where everyone is aware of the Self, the thread that connects and unites all, and lives harmoniously together as a single family.
I can feel a transformation in my body’s chemistry as I expand my consciousness. This change is not merely physical; it also generates an aura of energy around me, which has the ability to influence the consciousness of those around me. This phenomenon is exemplified by the coexistence of carnivorous and herbivorous animals in the hermitages of great sages. These sages delve into higher levels of consciousness for extended periods, creating a powerful sphere of energy that can elevate the consciousness of all beings, not just humans in the vicinity of it. This altered state of consciousness can quiet the human mind and enable it to recognize the Self. Once the Self is recognized, further evolution naturally occurs, and profound wisdom effortlessly flashes in the mind, much like a cow instinctively nourishes its newborn calf with the touch of its udder. No explicit instruction is needed; it is the altered consciousness itself that facilitates silent learning.
The unique aspect of this learning method is that it caters to the specific needs of each learner, even though they are all gathered in the same place, at the same time, under the same master, rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum for the entire class.
