State of Being
State of Being
When we walk the spiritual path, we frequently hear the phrase "State of Being." But what does it actually mean? Simply put, your State of Being is whatever is currently occupying, coloring, or filling your consciousness.
We spend so much of our lives trying to manipulate the physical world, believing that the world itself holds power over us. But a profound shift occurs when we realize a simple, undeniable truth: there is absolutely no inherent power in the physical world. The physical world is merely a mirror. It is just reflecting my current state of being. All true power resides entirely with my consciousness.
Consider how this mirror reflects the different states we hold within us:
The Reflection of Fear
If there is a fear resting in my consciousness, the consequences of having that fear—like others exploiting or threatening me—will inevitably reflect in the physical world. The world is simply showing me the shape of the fear I am holding. It is entirely up to me whether I choose to continue that experience, or if I choose to drop that fear from my consciousness.
The Reflection of Supremacy
This same law applies to our collective beliefs. If there is a thought in my consciousness that my religion is great and everyone should give up other religions and follow mine, those consequences appear in the physical world as conflicts, divisions, and wars.
Similarly, if I entertain the thought that my country should be the supreme power in the world, the relevant consequences—political tension and power struggles—appear in the physical world. By looking at all this, one thing is confirmed: the chaos outside is nothing but the shadow of the ideas held inside.
These consequences guide us in choosing ideas to be entertained.
The Reflection of Purity
But what happens when we clear the mirror? If my consciousness is pure, free from all these heavy, separate thoughts and personal agendas, the consequence of that purity effortlessly reflects in the physical world. The result is profound peace and calm. If I like that peaceful reflection, my only job is to continue dwelling in that pure state of being.
The Reflection of the Divine
This mirroring effect applies to everything, even our highest spiritual concepts. If I hold the idea in my consciousness that God is all-pervading, all-knowing, going before me to straighten the crooked paths, and showering immense love upon the world, my physical experience will naturally reflect this beautiful harmony.
But here is the deepest truth: this reflection does not mean that God is that specific idea. It simply proves the exact same law—the physical world is reflecting my current state of being. I have held an expansive, loving idea of God, and the world has mirrored it back to me.
The Ultimate Truth of Consciousness
By observing all of this, we uncover the greatest secret of human experience: ideas just give you a different experience. They are neither inherently right nor wrong. They are simply passing by.
A thought of fear, a thought of national supremacy, or even a comforting thought about God—they are all just ideas floating through the sky of awareness. If I entertain an idea, I am holding it in my consciousness. In other words, I am giving my power to that passing thought, and it hangs with me for as long as I hold it.
The moment I recognize this, I am completely free. I realize that the only absolute truth is our consciousness itself—the silent, formless feeling of "I". Everything else, from the chaos of the world to the very concepts we hold about the Divine, is simply a reflection of the ideas we are currently entertaining.
