The Root

We often hear ancient wisdom and spiritual phrases like, "We are all one," or "I and the Divine are one." They sound beautiful, but in the middle of a busy, stressful human life, what do those words actually mean? More importantly, what does that truth actually feel like when applied to our modern lives?

To understand this, we have to look at the very foundation of human suffering and complexity. It all begins with a single seed: the Root Thought.

The Banyan Tree of the Ego

The "root thought" is simply the deeply ingrained belief that "I am a separate entity." It is the voice that says, "I am me, and you are you. I am separate from the rest of the world."

Once I see myself as a separate, isolated person, a predictable chain reaction occurs. I begin to form attachments to specific people, titles, and things. To protect those attachments, I naturally gravitate toward those who help safeguard them. Conversely, I distance myself from those who might threaten them, which eventually leads to competition, fear, and even enmity. This gives birth to all the complexities, anxieties, and defenses of human life. These can be visualized as a massive, tangled banyan tree. And that massive tree grew from just one tiny seed: the root thought of separation.

We spend most of our lives trying to trim the branches of this tree—trying to fix this relationship, secure that job, or protect this asset. But what happens if we simply drop the seed?

Correcting Our Vision

When we drop the root thought, the entire banyan tree of complexity vanishes. The noise of the ego goes quiet. What remains is pure, quiet consciousness. What remains is simply You.

You can experience this new way of life consciously, without needing to force a single change upon your physical circumstances. Simply rest in that state of consciousness and let that be your meditation. This practice naturally creates a new inner vision within.

When your vision is corrected by this stillness, you realize a profound truth: you are not just a single, isolated body fighting against the world. You are the underlying Life Force, the Self, the "I", expressing itself uniquely through an infinite number of bodies.

When you look at humanity this way, everything changes. Because you see yourself (the Self, or God) in all, people are no longer competitors or strangers. You see yourself living through all bodies, naturally letting all bodies helping each other, collaborating with each other, and loving each other in complete harmony. On the surface, it appeals like people loving each other but in reality, you are just loving yourself, as you are living through all and there is no one else. We use phrases like "collaborating with each other" or "helping someone out" because human language requires it, but spiritually, it is simply Life expressing Itself through all. It is you, living and expressing yourself through all bodies.

A New Definition of Family

When you grasp this truth, it naturally shifts your perspective on human relationships. Traditional family structures are beautiful, but exclusive attachment to a small group of people can sometimes become the root of division—an "us versus them" mentality.

When you see the whole world as a collaborative expression of one consciousness, you realize you are safe wherever you are. You do not have to cling to a few people out of fear or survival. Every face is familiar. Every person is an ally. You begin to trust that you will have food, shelter, and companionship wherever you go, because it will naturally be provided by the people there—which is just you in another form, taking care of you.

Once again, I must emphasize the importance of holding this vision consciously. You must allow it to sink deeply into you so that your subconscious mind—not just your conscious intellect—accepts this reality completely. Do not look for validation in the physical world, because the physical world is simply your own consciousness pushed out.

Once this new vision is truly accepted within, your mind will naturally begin taking baby steps, offering you impulses influenced by this new inner reality. It might be as small as giving your used laptop to your maid's son, with the pure intention of helping God (which is yourself) express Itself more fully through him.

The point is this: you are allowing God—your true Self, freed from the root thought of separation—to live through your body, helping that exact same God express Itself through other bodies. In that same fluid motion, God will care for your body through the expressions of other bodies.

I know I am being a bit repetitive by stating this multiple times in this article, but I believe it is absolutely necessary to break the old hypnosis. I consciously enjoy this beautiful dance of the Divine through all things not just bodies, to the point where I can no longer bear to see any division at all—not even the divisions created by traditional family.

The Freedom of Having "No Fixed Home"

This brings us to the ultimate freedom: the dropping of ownership. In the physical world, we stress endlessly about owning things—our house, our land, our possessions. But in the spiritual reality, nobody owns anything, yet everything is available for everyone.

Once you truly see that you are the One Consciousness moving through the world, the heavy burden of trying to "own" your security falls away. I recently captured this realization in my own journal:

"When you drop the illusion of ownership, you are never homeless; you are universally homed. The roof I build is my gift to the one who arrives there, and the roof built by another is a gift to me wherever I stand. In fact, it is me living through all. I am serving myself, providing all basic needs of the body seamlessly, and focusing on expressing myself through all bodies."

Once again, the practice is to live this vision consciously. Do not look for validation in the physical world. Your state of consciousness is the seed from which the physical world grows, never the other way around. Things in the physical world cannot manufacture true joy for you; rather, it is the joy already established in your consciousness that reflects outward into the physical world as harmonious companionships, deep relationships, true prosperity, and more. Building and resting in this stable inner vision—this pure state of consciousness—is the only key.

Holding the Vision Without Forcing It (A Note to the Practical Mind)

To the practical, logical mind, everything you have just read might sound like an impossible, utopian dream. You might be wondering, How do I actually make this happen? Do I need to give away everything I own and walk into the woods?

The answer is a resounding no. This is simply the vision set in my heart. The profound secret is this: it does not matter if this perfectly materializes in the physical world today, tomorrow, or even on this earthly plane. The goal is not to force your physical reality to change through human effort. I put zero effort into trying to physically manifest this utopia. Instead, the key is simply to feel the vision—to rest in that inner feeling of love, freedom, harmony, and non-attachment.

When you consistently hold this state of consciousness, it eventually puts cracks in the walls of the human ego. Without you having to plan it, this inner stillness will naturally bring fresh, beautiful, and sometimes surprising new ways of living into your daily life.

It is a beautiful paradox: Do not have a vision, but have the vision. Do not hold a rigid, demanding picture of how your physical reality needs to be modified. Instead, hold the vision purely as a state of consciousness. Remain entirely open, letting that inner realization reflect in your outer world in whatever way it chooses.

We do not measure our spiritual progress by how much our physical life changes. Our only true measure—the only thing that actually matters—is the state of consciousness we are holding within.

The Freshness of True Living

When we allow God to live through us, we see everything through fresh eyes. Even the most repetitive daily routines—doing office work, cooking, or washing dishes—suddenly feel entirely new. Innovative thoughts effortlessly flash across our minds, making us not only more productive but bringing a deep, quiet feeling of fulfillment. When we look at the flowers on the balcony, listen to birds chirping in the trees, or comfort a crying baby in our lap, we feel an indescribable connection. There is a profound sense of intimacy and love.

Yet, the words I write here cannot truly convey the actual feeling in my heart. The realization that it is Me expressing as the flower, the bird, and the baby holds the potential for an experience so great that the human mind cannot even imagine it. Compared to this, all the greatest pleasures the materialistic world can offer are simply nothing. Every moment is fresh, and nothing else is needed when I am fully aware of my Self—the Self with no identity.

This sounds paradoxical, because in human terms, "self" is typically synonymous with having a strict identity. I often say that I do not look for anything other than my Beloved (the Divine Self). If I ask my mind to depict that great feeling, it depicts as follows. It is its understanding.

With my beloved

That is inaccurate (but helps sometimes to clear my mind as it gets attracted so much that it forgets everything else), because my Beloved is Me. How can I look for myself? I finally accept what the ancient sages have always said: it is impossible to accurately describe absolute spiritual truths using human language, which was created by minds still caught in the illusion of separation.

So, let us drop the complexities of trying to describe spiritual reality. Let us simply be that One Self, and look out at the world through Its lens to experience the true, infinite freshness of living.
