What kind of effect are you having on the world?

I took almost verbatim this snippet from a book–“As far as the heart can see: stories to illuminate the soul” authored by Mark Nepo. Although I am uncertain if this is legally permissible, my heart is content with utilizing this observation to impart a nugget of wisdom for the greater good.

A small flower growing out of a stone quiver high above the worn paths. Its fragrance drifts down to shore where a young woman is contemplating suicide, and something in the hint of a flower lifts her depressed head for a moment. The sent picked up by a gull, matted in its feathers. It makes the gull fly wildly through the only cloud, through the white center of no thing. An old man in a fishing boat is stunned by the swift charge of the gull into the open sky. He relaxes his net, and, underneath the shadow of the boat, the tangled angelfish squirm free

The flower would never know the impact it had on so many lives, giving a young girl a chance to live, uplifting a bird to take flight in the open sky, causing a man mesmerized by the bird's graceful flight through the sky, and even helping a fish escape from a net. Its nature was to spread its fragrance, and it didn't think beyond that. It didn't contemplate whether it would help it survive.

We can never truly comprehend the extent of our expressions and actions, and the effect they may have on the world. Discover who you truly are and get rid of any false identities or labels that are based on gender, family, religion, or country and express yourself as you are.
